What courier service should I integrate with Shopify?

If you target Polish consumers, it’s best to use courier services that are familiar to Polish consumers. What are the most popular shipping services in Poland? Those are DHL, DPD, UPS, TNT, GLS, FedEx, InPost, and some others. We would recommend you to consider those services if you’re about to launch your Shopify store that targets local customers.

Those companies, nonetheless, don’t have their official apps in the Shopify App Store. It doesn’t mean that you cannot use them in your Shopify store. What you can do to sync them with Shopify or Shopify Plus? There are two ways.

  1. You can use a third-party system to integrate shipping service with Shopify, such as Baselinker;
  2. You can use our app that integrates with Shopify directly

Both options have their pros and cons. Let’s see how to connect with them.

Integrating Shopify with courier services via Baselinker

The first option that you have when preparing to start selling via Shopify on the Polish market is integrating the e-commerce platform with a third-party app – Baselinker. A lot of e-commerce companies use Baselinker to automate business processes. You might be one of those companies, so it can be convenient to use it to integrate shipping services.

Integrating Shopify with Baselinker is totally free, but you need to pay for using Baselinker. How much does it cost? It depends on your monthly orders.

Is it easy to integrate Baselinker with Shopify? If you’re a non-technical person, you may be confused. You need to create a private app in Shopify to make the integration happen, grant it a few permissions, and generate an API key.

You also need to set up some things in Baselinker, such as syncing type, status updates from Baselinker to Shopify, syncing payments.

The con of using Baselinker to organize shipping is that you need to use Baselinker to organize sales processes. It’s like you are forced to use two separate panels to manage your orders. New orders appear in Baselinker, but if you want to change their status, you need to do that in Shopify. The status won’t change in Baselinker though. Baselinker isn’t a good choice unless you want to connect Shopify with Allegro or other marketplaces, as well as accounting apps.

Integrating Shopify with courier services without third-party tools

We created an alternative solution to address the disadvantages that we’ve just mentioned above. It’s an app that focuses on just one thing – syncing courier services with your store and managing shipping.

How does our integration work?

  1. Start with configuring courier – we connect via API with most shipping companies
  2. Set up shipping method
  3. Edit default package sizes
  4. The app gets a delivery address from Shopify
  5. The app allows you to get a courier for chosen orders and generate packing slip
  6. Once you do everything, Shopify updates order status to fullfiled and gets a package tracking number

What’s the advantage of this option of connecting courier services with Shopify? You work in a single system instead of two. To use this integration in Shopify, you need to have Carrier Calculated Shipping enabled (it’s free for Shopify Advanced and Shopify Plus). Activate it via Shopify chat. It costs 20 USD a month.

The app isn’t available in the Shopify store as of today, but that doesn’t mean you cannot use it. Schedule a call with us and we will install the app in your Shopify store. Use the contact form to ask us about installing the app.
